May Day 2009

A splendid day for a walk out in the neighborhood; a day to enjoy the weather, people, and natural beauty of the city. Jill and I decided to take a stroll down to the beach to see what we might see.

Who would have expected that the Taraxacum officinale would be in bloom! These charming members of the Aster family greeted us with their cheery disposition and alerted us to the fact that spring indeed had arrived.

The world is a palimpsest. Using our extensive tracking skills, Jill and I were able to discern the movements of a variety of our friends in the wild. Naturally, the untrained eye will not be able to read these markings with any accuracy, but let me at least point out the suspected proximity of the AYSOs.

As expected, we encountered an assortment of revelers. These gents were blowing incredibly huge bubbles using the latest bubble-making technology. Unfortunately, this photo does not capture a bubble in the making, but let your mind's eye picture bubbles the size of your head undulating and rolling like air-borne amoebae out to the lake.

All this walking and observing has certainly given us an appetite. Shall we try the French cuisine here at the CAFE D' PIER? Jill thinks not, and we head to Garcia's for a nod toward the approaching Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Ah, the delicate redolence of the steak burrito, the fish taco, the arroz y frijoles. Too hungry to remember to document the meal beforehand, Jill takes this snapshot of the aftermath of her gustatory gusto.

Ling house

This is a picture of the Linguistics Department at Northwestern University. The photo has been manipulated to look like a tilt-shift photograph, but the angle just isn't high enough to get the real effect.
